Dol Prasad Aryal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, the member for Kathmandu 9, became the 10th Speaker of the House of Representatives and the first non-communist Speaker in 18 years. No other candidate was nominated, so the House elected him unopposed and no division was recorded.
