UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said on June 21, 2026, that the UN is deeply concerned about the situation in Nepal. He urged Nepali authorities to protect the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, and called on security forces to adhere to basic principles regarding the use of force. He also emphasized the importance of dialogue between the government and demonstrators to resolve issues peacefully.
Separately, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on June 17, 2026, advocated for strengthening multilateral institutions including the UN and voiced support for reforms within the organization, pointing to Nepal's significant contributions to UN peacekeeping missions as evidence of its consistent engagement.
Nepal is currently serving as President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2025–2026 term and is slated to chair the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security of the UN General Assembly during its 81st session, running from September 2026 to September 2027.

संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघको चिन्ता र नेपालको भूमिका
संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघका महासचिवका प्रवक्ता स्टेफान दुजारिकले २१ जुन २०२६ मा नेपालको अवस्थाप्रति संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघ गहिरो चिन्तित रहेको बताए। उनले नेपाली अधिकारीहरूलाई शान्तिपूर्ण सभा गर्ने अधिकार तथा अभिव्यक्ति स्वतन्त्रताको संरक्षण गर्न आग्रह गरे र सुरक्षा बलहरूलाई बल प्रयोगसम्बन्धी आधारभूत सिद्धान्तहरूको पालना गर्न आह्वान गरे। साथै, उनले सरकार र प्रदर्शनकारीहरूबीच समस्याहरू शान्तिपूर्ण रूपमा समाधान गर्न संवादको महत्त्वमा जोड दिए।
यसैबीच, परराष्ट्रमन्त्री शिशिर खनालले १७ जुन २०२६ मा संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघलगायत बहुपक्षीय संस्थाहरूलाई सुदृढ बनाउनुपर्ने पक्षमा आफ्नो धारणा राखे र संगठनभित्र सुधारको समर्थन गरे। उनले संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघको शान्ति सैनिक अभियानमा नेपालको उल्लेखनीय योगदानलाई निरन्तर संलग्नताको प्रमाणका रूपमा उल्लेख गरे।
नेपाल हाल सन् २०२५–२०२६ कार्यकालका लागि संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघको आर्थिक तथा सामाजिक परिषद् (ECOSOC) को अध्यक्षता गरिरहेको छ। साथै, नेपाल सन् २०२६ को सेप्टेम्बरदेखि सन् २०२७ को सेप्टेम्बरसम्म चल्ने संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघ महासभाको ८१औँ अधिवेशनमा निःशस्त्रीकरण तथा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय सुरक्षासम्बन्धी प्रथम समितिको अध्यक्षता गर्ने निर्धारित छ।
