Nepal Rastra Bank data shows remittances reached Rs 1.92 trillion in the period from mid-July 2025 to mid-May 2026, a 41.2% increase over the same period the previous year. In US dollar terms, the figure rose 33% to $13.26 billion. Remittances are estimated to account for approximately 39 to 40% of Nepal's GDP, making them a central pillar of the economy.
Earlier data covering the first eight months of the fiscal year had already shown a 37.67% rise in rupee terms and a 31.02% increase in dollar terms, indicating the growth rate has accelerated as the year has progressed. The sustained inflow continues to support foreign exchange reserves and household consumption across the country.
