Nepal Rastra Bank data show that remittances received during the ten months ending mid-May 2026 totalled Rs 1.92 trillion, rising 41.2% in Nepali rupee terms and 33.0% in US dollar terms year-on-year. Inflows in Baisakh alone (mid-April to mid-May 2026) amounted to Rs 257.49 billion.

The ten-month remittance figure represents approximately 28.2% of GDP, based on the World Bank's estimate of Nepal's GDP at USD 45.49 billion for 2025. The sustained inflow has been a key factor supporting Nepal's external sector and foreign exchange reserves even as domestic credit growth and capital expenditure have lagged.

Imports also rose 14.8% over the same ten-month period, reflecting in part the purchasing power channelled through remittance receipts.
