The headline inflation rate in Nepal accelerated to 5.22% year-on-year in mid-June 2026, nearly doubling the 2.72% recorded a year earlier. This increase was driven by rises in both food and beverage prices (4.95%) and non-food and services prices (5.37%). Wholesale price inflation also surged to 8.47% year-on-year in mid-June 2026.
Conversely, remittance inflows to Nepal surged by 29.6% to 14.59 billion U.S. dollars between mid-July 2025 and mid-June 2026, compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. In the single month between mid-May and mid-June 2026, remittance inflows reached 1.33 billion U.S. dollars, with the Nepal Rastra Bank reporting remittances surged 38.2% to NRs 2.12 trillion up to mid-June 2026.
Gross foreign exchange reserves also increased by 26.5% to 24.68 billion U.S. dollars in mid-June 2026, up from 19.50 billion dollars in mid-July 2025.
