Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said on June 7, 2026, that Nepal is not seeking third-party mediation for its territorial dispute with India and intends to resolve the matter through direct diplomatic channels. The statement came at the close of a three-day official visit to New Delhi from June 5–7, 2026.

Discussions during the visit also covered development cooperation, trade, energy, and people-to-people relations. Separately, Nepal Clearing House Limited and India's National Payments Corporation of India announced the operationalization of Peer-to-Peer cross-border payment transactions, a step toward greater digital and financial connectivity between the two countries.
