How the relationship works
The World Bank has been a continuous partner since 1969. Its active portfolio runs around USD 3 billion across roads, energy, health, education, federalism support, and climate. IDA terms are deeply concessional (0.75-1.25% service charge, 38-year maturity, 6-year grace). The bank's Country Partnership Framework 2024-2028 emphasises productive jobs, climate, and gender.
The short version
The World Bank gives Nepal very cheap loans — almost interest-free, paid back over 38 years. Its money mostly builds roads, power, schools, and clinics.
